Cariaga as main sharer

We had 39 members and nine guests present during last Saturday’s breakfast meeting, a marked improvement from the November 13 meeting which was attended by 30 members and five guests.

Praise the Lord for answering the chapter’s prayers to bring in more men to our fellowship.

This coming Saturday, we expect more participants as we hold our monthly joint fellowship with our espouses and lady guests. The incoming President, Engr. Cirilo Basalo, who is a cheerful giver, is hosting this Saturday’s breakfast.

Lined up to participate in the meeting are the following:

Opening Prayer & Prayer for the Nation – Arch. Ben Mandin

Grace for the Food – Dominador Barriga

Flower Offering – Felizardo & Maebel Carmelotes

Love Offering – Roman Guerrero, Jr.

Main Sharer – Atty. Bienvenido Cariga

Closing Prayer – Engr. Ruben Sumagang

Master of Ceremony – Peter Lavina

Rev. Shiloh Haigh, one of our spiritual advisers, was originally scheduled to be our main sharer but he is not available for the weekend. He instead suggested to give the outgoing president, Atty. Bienvenido Cariaga, the opportunity to be the main sharer and everyone agreed. Aside from being a topnotch lawyer and many times president of our chapter, Atty. Cariaga also teaches bible studies in their church. With his permission I will post here some of his articles published in our weekly bulletin.

Incidentally, I missed to post last week because I was on the road and had no internet access. I traveled from Davao to Cagayan de Oro, to Iligan City, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, to Pagadian City, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City and Basilan. This week, I will be in Metro Manila.

Thank you so much to our Coordinator Teddy Reyes who always pray for my safe trip and the healing of my daughter Angel.

New officers

Praise the Lord we had another successful Saturday breakfast fellowship. We also elected a new set of officers.

Forty members attended the meeting and we had nine guests, including Dr. George Annadorai of the Lord’s Family Church in Singapore who was in Davao in connection with the “God Bless Israel” convocation held at Praise Revival Center last Thursday. Another guest was old time Full Gospel member Ony Basa who is now doing ministry work in Manila and involved with the “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

Our spiritual adviser Rev. Roger Delgado shared the Word of God to inspire the members of the chapter. He cited the story and leadership of Moses in fulfilling the will of God. He said God gives us double blessings in the same manner God called on Moses’s name twice … Moses, Moses! (Exodus 3:4) He said calling the name twice means both endearment and emphasis to show how God loves  us like Moses. He said God blesses us to become blessings to others.

So, our chapter leaders are blessed by God to serve and be blessings to others. And the elected members of the new board of trustees are the following:

President – Engr. Cirilo Basalo, Jr.

1st Vice President – Antonio dela Cruz

2nd Vice President – Peter Lavina

Secretary – Benjamin Aquino

Treasurer – Felizardo Carmelotes, Jr.

Auditor – Arch. Jose Alvarado

PRO – Capt. Lowell Yasay

Coordinator – Teodoro Reyes

Trustees – Atty. Bienvenido Cariaga, Dr. Marcelino Dahinog, Judge Dino Maniwang

Their term of office will start upon their induction temporarily set on the first week of December. Please pray for the new leadership of the chapter.

Election update

We had another successful breakfast meeting this morning with 30 members, four visitors and the guest speaker, Rev. Wenzyl V. Dejolde, in attendance.

Four members shared brief life testimonies, namely, Engr. Wendel Navales, 2nd Vice President Engr. Cirilo Basalo, Jr, Teddy Reyes and Auditor Felizardo Carmelotes, Jr. They talked about how Jesus touched their lives during the week overcoming odds and receiving blessings.

Among our visitors was Spanish-American William Benavides from Florida who was brought along by Engr. Basalo, Jr. We sat him beside our Honduran member, Dr. Juis Jacome, so he would feel at home with another person who speaks Spanish.

I could sense that he enjoyed the fellowship because he nodded when I told him to please attend again next Saturday.

Engr. Basalo is a shoo-in to win our “Fisherman of the Year” award for inviting many guests to attend our fellowship and who, eventually, become full-time members.

Election Update:

After the meeting, the board of trustees sat for a brief meeting in preparation for the forthcoming election of officers. VP Gerry Guiang told the group about the advise of National President Robert Lee about the FGBMFI’s manual on the election of officers. Hence, the board recalled its earlier decision to elect the President at-large. So, during the election next Saturday the members will elect 10 members of board of trustees. The incumbent President is an ex-officio member to compose the board with 11 members. Thereafter, the board will elect among themselves the officers – President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor and Directors.

Gerry Guiang, who will chair the COMELEC, reminded that only those with paid dues by Saturday would be able to cast their votes.

City Councilor Emmanuel Galicia, who is also a pastor, would be invited as guest speaker to talk about leadership of God’s servants.

The FGBMFI Davao City Chapter will hold the election of its officers on October 23. The chapter is now praying for the success of this exercise to choose the new set of leaders for the year 2011.

The election is a three step process. First, the chapter members at-large will elect the President. Second, the body will elect ten (10) members of the Board of Trustees. And third, the Trustees will choose among themselves the rest of the officers: 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, PRO and Directors.

The election will be supervised by Mindanao Vice President Gerry Guiang, Past President Engr. Eder Bacus, and our Spiritual Advisers, the Rev. Shiloh Haigh and Pastor Bert Diao.

Our officers are a group of good men and capable leaders. They have successfully managed our chapter affairs and continue to spread the Good News among businessmen and professionals not only in Davao City, but reaching men from many walks of life as far away as General Santos City in the south to Agusan del Sur in the north.

Our incumbent President is a lawyer  like the sinner Saul transformed into the Apostle Paul. Atty Bienvenido Cariaga was a pioneer incorporator of the DC Chapter, the first FGBMFI chapter formed in the Philippines in 1973. He has served as President several times.

I learned that there are at least three others ready to serve the chapter as President should Atty. Cariaga decide not to seek reelection. They are our two Vice Presidents, Antonio dela Cruz, who chairs a big cooperative in the city and manages a security agency, and Engr. Cirilo Basalo, Jr., an electrical engineer who runs the country’s only accredited ship waste management company. The third is one of our Directors, Cris Arrieta, one time Visayas-Mindanao manager of a multinational soft drinks company and now one of the biggest billboard advertising operator in this part of the country.

Aside from being a lawyer, Atty. Cariaga also chairs the Davao City Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and sits in the Regional Wage Board in the Davao Region.

The four of them are men of ability and dedication. Anyone of them, anointed by God, would serve well our chapter as our leader. But, of course, all of us in our chapter know that we are all followers. Our true leader is Jesus Christ. And we have long elected him as our Lord and Savior.
